In Numbers 13 and 14, the Israelites were given the opportunity to go into the Promised Land. Many of you may remember this lesson from Sunday School.
Moses had just led the Israelites from Egypt, and they had crossed the Red Sea. God had done great things to lead His people back to the Promised Land, and right at the edge, the Israelites were told of God that they had the land. But when the twelve spies went out to spy out the land ten came back and told the people that they couldn’t do it. How sad! God told them it was their land, but they believed man’s opinion rather than the promise of God. They ended up losing their chance to live in the land of milk and honey because they didn’t believe God. How sad that they wasted the next forty years of their lives because they failed to trust and follow through on what God told them to do. Those men and women that were over 20 years of age would not be used of God. God did not stop loving them but they did miss out on blessings. For the next forty years they wondered around the wilderness; although their shoes did not wear out and neither did their clothes, they still missed out on a huge blessing.
What a sad story that is, but isn’t that true for many Christians today? We don’t believe that God really meant what He said when He told us to go and teach all nations in Matthew 28:19 or when He said that we shall be witnesses unto Him. We hear that He says that we have power given unto us and that He will be with us until the ends of the earth, but we don’t trust it and obey it. We are like those ten spies who say, “We are too small and we can’t do it.” But the reality is that God is doing a work and will get the Gospel to the uttermost. The question is will you be the instrument that God uses or the one who is wandering in the wilderness. It is NOW or NEVER!!! Will you take the Gospel and go unto the world and reach our generation?
