For the next two weeks at the Our Generation Training Center we will be studying Baptist History. I love this subject and I am very excited about this class. John Pearson, a deacon at our church, Vision Baptist Church, is teaching this class and has done a great job in preparing for this class. I get the opportunity to sit in on this class and I am truly loving it.
You might be wondering why a class on Baptist History should be taught in a missionary training center, and that is a great question. The first reason why the OGTC teaches Baptist history is because we are Baptist. The OGTC is a ministry of Vision Baptist Church. The OGTC is not its own entity; it is a ministry of Vision Baptist Church. We are not a college or university. We are a just what our name says. We are a Training Center, and the leadership of the Vision Baptist Church runs the OGTC. So we will study Baptist History because that is who we are.
Learning Baptist history gives us a chance for to see men from the past who struggled and worked through what they believed. Doctrine affects everything including how one lives, and Baptist history is filled with men who studied the Scriptures and then had to decide if they would follow their current belief system or follow after the truth. Their decision to follow truth and abandon their current belief system would cost them. For some the cost was their lives, jobs, homes, and families. Their doctrine affected their living. If the doctrine that you believe doesn’t affect your living then you probably don’t believe it. Throughout Baptist history you will see men with biblical conviction. The example of the men of Baptist history should challenge you to know what God says and then do it.
I hope you will get the opportunity to experience this class one day.
