Preparation for the Field 

“Missions is the most important job in the world so prepare like it is!”

Introduction 

    • Think about the importance of the the foundation in a building.
      • “It’s not the will to win that matters—everyone has that. It’s the will to prepare to win that matters.” – Paul “Bear” Bryant
    • Discuss the importance of the preparing your tools. Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe. – Abraham Lincoln 
    • The bigger the foundation the bigger the building and longer it will last. 
      • Strength and stability lie in the Foundation. Matthew 7:24-27
      • Most surface issues are really foundation issues if we are courageous enough to find the source.

    1. Preparing to Preach and Teach
      1. Preach or Teach 100 times. 
      2. Work on your ability to communicate. 
    2. Discipling others.
      1. Know the Bible first. 
      2. Teach others here in the states. 
    3. Soul winning.
      1. Are you active in giving the gospel currently? 
      2. Do you carry around tracts?
      3. How can you expect to teach something you have never done before or do you expect to learn this while you are on the field? 
    4. Understanding how a church works.
      1. Missionaries start churches. 
      2. Know how to run a church service. 
      3. Know how to get spectators to become volunteers. 
      4. Know how to run financial meetings.
      5. Know how to run men’s meetings.
      6. Know how to appoint deacons and train deacons.
      7. Know how to make a church calendar. 
      8. Know how to baptize.
      9. Know how to give the Lord’s Supper. 
      10. Know how to give church discipline.
      11. Know how to work in a church.
